Join The Bands of Wando Foundation for a Mardi Gras Celebration on Friday, February 15th from 6:30-10:30pm aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriot’s Point in Mount Pleasant. Keep music education strong in our community while enjoying traditional New Orleans cuisine, dancing and jazz music featuring Cameron and the Saltwater Brass. Don’t miss your chance to bid on wonderful vacations and other unique opportunities during the silent and live auctions hosted by emcee Richard Todd, a local radio personality. The Bands of Wando Foundation is a South Carolina nonprofit corporation organized for charitable and educational purposes, and is established to promote music education to students. In order to participate in regional competitions, the Wando band needs financial support as the Charleston County School District only provides $25 for each high school band member. These funds do not begin to cover the financial need for Wando students to compete at this level. Additional funding is also required to attract top musical directors, pay additional staff, offer lessons purchase instruments, and other necessary equipment. Last year, the Wando band was a Bands of America national finalist as well as Bands of America South Carolina regional grand champion, regional finalist & class champion.

The Bands of Wando Inaugural Fundraiser

The Bands of Wando Foundation will be holding the inaugural Fundraising Gala on Friday, May 4th from 7-11pm at Omar Shine at Patriot’s Point in Mt. Pleasant. The event will feature live entertainment provided by The Robert Lewis Jazz Quintet with additional guest artists, a live auction, catering provided by Charleston Bay Gourmet, and a cash bar. With 200 guests expected in attendance, the goal at this black tie optional event is to raise $35,000 to cover costs of various needs for the Wando High School Band as well as the middle school bands from Cario, Laing, and Moultrie Middle Schools that feed into and support the Bands of Wando program.

Awendaw Green Music Festival

Over two Lowcountry winter days of Sat-Sun, Dec. 4-5, a generous helping of Charleston’s finest musical acts will display their talents across four stages at The Awendaw Green Music Festival. Performers include Steven Fiore, Gaslight Street, James Justin & Co, Mark Bryan, the Shrimp Record Family Band, Slow Runner, Mac Leaphart and My Ragged Company, The Tips, John Wesley Satterfield and his Damn Fine Band, Ryan Bonner and the Dearly Beloved, The Bushels, Lindsay Holler and the Western Polaroids, The Casual Kings, Firework Show, Deepwater Soul Society, Megan Jean and the KFB, The Freeloaders, Torture Town, Po’Ridge, Steel Petals, The Danielle Howle Band, Josh Roberts and Doug Jones.

In all, over 150 performers amidst 66 unique acts will play over the two days. Two Center Stages will rotate 45-minute sets, allowing continuous music from noon – 10 pm each day. The Dance Stage will highlight an assortment of grooving and growing acts. A particularly exciting development is the creation of the Singer/Songwriter Stage at the stage normally used for Barn Jams. Featuring an ‘in-the-round’ performance style, this stage will offer an intimate level of connectivity amongst individual performers and their audience.

Tickets for the Awendaw Green Music Festival are $15/day or $25 for a weekend pass and students $10/day or $20/weekend pass, available at the gate. Food and drink will be reasonably priced and provided by the Seewee Restaurant Grill on site and Palmetto Brewery. Please, no coolers. Proceeds from the Awendaw Green Music Festival will benefit the Wando High School Band Program, the American Red Cross, Toys for Tots and other local causes.
