The Music Initiative, in conjunction with This Is Noteworthy {tin}, joins forces with Rockers for Knockers, Inc. to co-produce music for the third annual Rockers 4 Knockers event on Sunday, October 13 on Shem Creek. This year anticipates being “the Breast year ever” as the musicians selected to play will have a tie to the disease itself. The Music Initiative/ This Is Noteworthy will produce a live-to-tape version of the popular local music television program Eclectic Evenings from the event. Participating bands will have the opportunity to play a 45-minute to an hour-long set each between noon and 5pm on the day of the event, and be featured in an individual video segment as part of this special Eclectic Evenings broadcast.

The concerts actively give a way for people to celebrate the lives of those who have been saved and those who have passed. This all day event featuring live music and a pub crawl will raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Lowcountry and Integrative Cancer Care organizations. Headlining the event is Charleston’s own Elise Testone.

The Music Initiative and This Is Noteworthy {tin} help further musical and health-minded causes in the Southeast. {tin} produced the bands playing along the route for the 2013 Cooper River Bridge Run and is known locally for broadcasting their Eclectic Evenings weekly musical showcase and producing Charleston’s BalconyTV segments. They also provide national and international coverage of “local music scenes” in their quarterly magazine Found: Music Uncovered.

8th Annual Suzy McGrane Memorial Party

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 24, 2012 by Lowcountry Boil

Share Our Suzy presents the 8th Annual Suzy McGrane Memorial Party on Saturday, May 26th at 5pm at Lighthouse on the Creek in Mt. Pleasant. In addition to classic shrimp boats, playful dolphins and lowcountry sunsets on Shem Creek, this favorite Memorial Weekend event will feature cocktails, a spread from Home Team BBQ, and live music from Five Way Friday & Gaslight Street. $35 advance tickets are available at etix.com or admission is $50 at the door.

It is the sponsors that make the event possible: Roper St. Francis Cancer Care, Richardson, Patrick, Westbrook and Brickman, O’Brion’s Pub & Grille, Shoreline Productions and Eskimo Advertising. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available for the event.

Suzy McGrane was a local photographer who was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early twenties and ultimately lost her battle when the disease returned years later. What started as Save Our Suzy is now known as Share Our Suzy. The goal of SOS is to bridge the financial gap and allow breast cancer patients to focus solely on recovery and not the financial stress brought on during this very difficult battle. Funds raised cover the critical areas that insurance companies do not by providing assistance to those with daily needs such as wigs, prosthetics, childcare, gas cards, utility bill assistance, medication assistance and more. Share Our Suzy’s mission is to raise money and resources to assist and support breast cancer patients in South Carolina from diagnosis to remission.
