The Footlight Players, Charleston’s longest producing theatre company, celebrates eighty-two years of continuous theatre as the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table comes alive on the Dock Street Theatre stage in the Lerner and Loewe classic, Camelot. This timeless story of a noble king, a beautiful queen, a valiant knight, and the cherished kingdom in which they live hit the stage last Friday. The musical follows him as he embarks on his dream of creating a just society in which civil law overpowers the brute force that ruled kingdoms past.
“In pondering some of Lerner’s lyrics, ‘the winter is forbidden till December and exits March the second on the dot. By order summer lingers through September in Camelot,’ I could not help but think of our very own captivating city of Charleston,” said director Mary Cimino. “Charleston has its own magic and is, in essence, our Camelot. What better place to stage this enchanting show but in the historic and magical Dock Street Theatre.”
