Local Photographer Introduces The Colors of Charleston CD

Local photographer Joel Cardwell has published a photo CD titled The Colors of Charleston. The CD contains 90 high quality photos of the Charleston area and a video of the images.  For Cardwell, the CD is the culmination of five years of photographing the lowcountry.  It includes “The Holy City”, the photo that won first place in The City Paper Photo Contest in 2006. It took just four months from concept to completion.  The CD can now be found in the Visitors Center gift shop, the Hudson News gift shop at the airport, WonderWorks downtown in the city market, the South Carolina Aquarium gift shop, and at select Piggly Wiggly stores. The folks at City Slicker have added Cardwell’s photography to their Charleston Walking Tour i-Phone app.   Cardwell is also talking to local upscale hotels to use the CDs as turn down service for VIP guests.

“I love this city and I can’t imagine a more beautiful setting for photography,” said Cardwell, “The diversity of landscapes, architecture, and people make Charleston to perfect place for me to live and work.”

Cardwell continues, “There’s a famous quote from an elderly Charleston matriarch, who although she had the means, never left the city to travel.  When asked why, she replied “Why should I travel, when I’m already here?”  I feel the same way about this historic and charming city.”

Joel Cardwell always had a love of art, instilled by his first grade teacher.  He studied graphic design and commercial art in high school.  After a long successful career in newspaper advertising sales and management, Cardwell got into photography when he received a Nikon D50 camera for Christmas in 2005.  In 2006, he won first place in The City Paper Photo Contest, which gave him the confidence to develop his creative outlet of photography.  Cardwell shoots portraits, pets, children, weddings and couples as well as his favorite subject…Charleston, South Carolina.

You can view the images on Cardwell’s Facebook fan page at http://www.facebook.com/JoelCardwellPhotos. Joel can be reached at 843.410.8012 for details on purchasing the CD for personal or corporate use or for other photographic services.
