Folly Beach’s Mermaids & Mateys Street Festival

The Mermaids and Mateys Street Festival will take place on Saturday, September 24th from  10am – 4pm. Center Street will be closed on “Salty Saturday” and taken over by Folly establishments, food, and vendors! Featuring local bands, 50+ Folly art, craft, and fashion vendors, and a robust kid area, Mermaids & Mateys will have something for everyone! Tickets are $9 in advance; $15 at the door with kids 12 and under and Folly residents with valid driver’s licenses are free.

Live Music: Three stages will showcase Folly Beach musicians.

Kids Area: Check out the Mermaids and Mateys under the sea kids area by Good Clean Fun with magicians, Mermaids, sand crafts, glitter body paint, and more! There will also be free inflatables for games and jumping fun!

What’s an event without some competition? Mermaids and Mateys will feature a costume contest for families and adults. Dress up as a Mermaid, Matey, or your favorite Under the Sea character! Prizes to be awarded! 

*No Animals, Coolers, Bikes, Skateboards, Scooters, or Backpacks (except diaper bags). No Outside Beverages. Reusable cups are permitted but must be empty upon entering and exiting the event.

Opening Weekend at The Refinery Amphitheater

The Refinery, Charleston’s newest mixed-use development designed for a work and play lifestyle, located at 1640 Meeting Street Rd., will begin hosting live concerts and events at its new outdoor music amphitheater this weekend. The new venue, in conjunction with Charleston-based entertainment agency Ear for Music, will welcome a variety of local, regional and national performing acts to the Lowcountry, including Trouble No More and Trevor Hall August 13th and 14th. “Our goal was to create a dynamic space that is accessible to the community, yet unique to downtown Charleston,” shares Lindsay Nevin, owner and CEO of The Flyway Companies. “We can’t wait to host an array of talented performers and entertainers from across the country right here in Charleston. The Refinery will be a place where locals and visitors alike can come together and experience the Lowcountry lifestyle in a unique way.”

The Refinery’s outdoor space accommodates up to 1,500 patrons and will offer fast and fun food and drink options during events via the property’s anchor tenants, The Whale, Sweet Grass Vodka and a new restaurant that will be announced soon. The Refinery building features 17 commercial spaces, as well as an outdoor rooftop called “The Platform,” which will offer an elevated VIP experience for concertgoers. The Platform is also available to rent for private events for up to 150 guests.

The Refinery Amphitheater features a covered stage, green space, permanent restrooms and concessions in retrofitted shipping containers, as well as unique greenrooms for artists, housed in a renovated railcar. Inspiration for the retrofitted railcar greenroom came from the property’s historical roots and industrial surroundings, which was once owned by Standard Oil. Developed by The Flyway Companies and Mountain Shore Properties, The Refinery is an urban mixed-use development located on Charleston’s upper peninsula at 1640 Meeting Street Rd., situated between North Charleston and downtown Charleston. Designed for a work and play lifestyle, The Refinery attracts locals and visitors alike with retail, hospitality, office space and special event venues, as well as an outdoor music amphitheater.

Feast on Lowcountry Blue Crab and Celebrate Awendaw Life at the 25th Annual Awendaw Blue Crab Festival

The 25th Annual Awendaw Blue Crab Festival, hosted by the Town of Awendaw, is set for Saturday, August 27th from 11am – 5pm. Over 3,000 guests are expected to attend and feast away as hundreds of bushels of tasty, local Lowcountry Blue Crabs are served by the bucketful. This will be the first year the family-friendly celebration is held at the new event venue in the Town of Awendaw Municipal Park at 7997 Doar Road.In addition to delicious blue crab served in multiple flavors, the event will feature local food trucks with a variety of options for every palette, as well as beer and wine. Shop more than 75 art and retail vendors, enjoy live music by The Secrets, and get adventurous on hayrides, pontoon boat rides, and a huge kids’ area. Please remember to leave your pets at home.

General admissions tickets are available for $10/ticket when purchased in advance or $15 at the door. Children 12 and under are free. Upgrade to the VIP experience for $125 per person. These tickets include one bucket of crab, complimentary food and beverage, private bathrooms, tented seating in the heart of the event, and a VIP entrance to avoid the lines. VIP tickets are limited. All crab buckets, beer and wine, hayrides, and boat rides will require tickets. 
 
This beloved event dates back to 1994 when a small group of Awendaw residents came together to indulge in a few bushels of crabs under the live oak tree at Town Hall. A much larger event-goer population is expected at this year’s event at the Town of Awendaw Municipal Park. Surrounded by mother nature, this 300-acre plot of land is the perfect spot for families to take in the scenery, eat some crabs, and enjoy all the event has to offer. 
 
A portion of all admission proceeds will go to “Build the Park” and other Awendaw Charities.

Lowcountry Dog Magazine along with Charleston Parks Conservancy and The Bridge 105.5 brings you WOOFSTOCK: A Lowcountry Dog Music Festival on Saturday March 23, 2019 at Brittlebank Park. Gates open at 11:00 am and features seven bands, food trucks, local vendors. The festival benefits 6 local rescue groups including Valiant: Animal Rescue + Relief, Pet Helpers Adoption Shelter and Spay/Neuter Clinic, Eunoia Rescue, Bullies 2 The Rescue, Waters Edge Great Dane Rescue, Inc. and Greyhound Pets of America-Charleston. This is a RAIN OR SHINE event. No outside food, beverage or coolers. Lawn chairs and blankets are allowed. Leashed dogs are welcomed.

Trondossa Music and Arts Festival

The inaugural Trondossa Music & Arts Festival will take place on May 5 & 6th at Riverfront Park in North Charleston. The festival will feature Widespread Panic and Grammy award-winning country music and roots rock singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson each performing twice. There will also be sets from country singer-songwriter Margo Price, indie-alternative rock band Moon Taxi, folk music band Hiss Golden Messenger and Big Something fusing elements of rock, pop, funk, and improvisation.

Junco Partner Live at The Commodore

Palmetto Brewgrass Festival

palThe Awendaw Green family and Palmetto Brewery are teaming up to present a two-day bluegrass festival on May 6-8. The weekend, in support of the local music scene and for the love of all things beer and bluegrass, will begin on Friday with a special show featuring Mike Farris, Kim Richey, and Brian Ashley Jones at Charleston Music Hall. The Bluegrass festival will kick off on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm at  Palmetto Brewery bringing together more than a dozen regionally acclaimed country bluegrass bands and artists. Festivalgoers will enjoy up-tempo and energetic bluegrass music, delicious Palmetto beer and multiple food-trucks. The Festival will feature performances by Southbound 17, Chewbacky, Pinkerton and the Brinks, Dallas Baker and Friends, Southern Flavor Bluegrass, John Stickley Trio, Love Canon, Cane Creek String Band, Triangle Bluegrass, Red Cedar Review, Forlorn Strangers Della Mae and Gravel Road Acoustic.

“Palmetto Brewery is like the front porch of downtown Charleston. All kinds of people from all parts of the city gather on that porch to have a good time,” said Awendaw Green’s organizer Eddie White. “The Brewgrass Festival is us inviting a bunch of insanely awesome bluegrass musicians up on that porch to do what they do best. It’s gonna have all of the excitement of a festival, with the feel-good vibes of a house show where the beer is better.”

Music and Oysters for Wildlife

2The 11th annual Music and Oysters for Wildlife will be held at Sewee Outpost this Saturday from 1:30pm-6pm! Musical talent includes at 1:30pm Lincoln Middle High Steel Band, at 2pm The Loose Hinges, at 2pm Cravin’ Melon & Friends, at 4:30pm Red Dog Ramblers and at 5:30pm Danielle Howle. There will be a Silent Auction, beer, wine, soft drinks, BBQ and burgers for purchase. This annual event will be held rain or shine. Tickets are $35 advance tix / $40 day of includes all you can eat Bulls Bay oysters. Children under 12 get in free. Click here to purchase.
