The Bands of Wando Inaugural Fundraiser
The Bands of Wando Foundation will be holding the inaugural Fundraising Gala on Friday, May 4th from 7-11pm at Omar Shine at Patriot’s Point in Mt. Pleasant. The event will feature live entertainment provided by The Robert Lewis Jazz Quintet with additional guest artists, a live auction, catering provided by Charleston Bay Gourmet, and a cash bar. With 200 guests expected in attendance, the goal at this black tie optional event is to raise $35,000 to cover costs of various needs for the Wando High School Band as well as the middle school bands from Cario, Laing, and Moultrie Middle Schools that feed into and support the Bands of Wando program.
The Bands of Wando Foundation is a South Carolina nonprofit corporation, 501(c)(3), and is organized for charitable and educational purposes, and is established to promote music education to students. The 2018 Bands of Wando fall schedule includes two semi regional competitions in North Carolina, the Grand Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Wando’s own Lowcountry Invitational. In order to participate in these events, the Wando band needs financial support as the Charleston County School District only provides $25 for each high school band member. These funds do not begin to cover the financial need for Wando students to compete at this level. Additional funding is required to attract and secure musical directors, pay additional staff, purchase instruments, offer lessons and purchase other necessary equipment.
