GET COOKING CHARLESTON! RECIPE CONTEST & COOK-OFF

Charleston Magazine is looking for great home cooks to show off their skills and their favorite recipes featuring South Carolina ingredients for its second annual recipe contest and cook-off, Get Cooking Charleston! presented by Piggly Wiggly Carolina.

Home cooks can go online and submit recipes in the following categories:

Appetizer: required ingredient: locally harvested shellfish

Entrée: required ingredient: sustainable, South Carolina-harvested or -raised fish, meat, poultry or game

Side Dish: required ingredient: South Carolina-grown vegetable or grain (should be available in October)

Dessert: required ingredient: historically significant product (such as benne, Madeira or oranges)

The recipe judges will review all submissions and select two finalists in each category. Those finalists will compete in the October 23, 2010 cook-off at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus amphitheater in front of a live audience and our celebrity culinary judges, including Charleston food editor Marion Sullivan and award-winning cookbook authors Nathalie Dupree and Matt Lee. The winners of each category and their recipes will be featured in the December 2010 Food & Wine issue of Charleston magazine and in a Charleston Mag TV video at www.charlestonmag.com. And the cook with the highest overall score will receive the $500 Grand Prize!

Deadline for recipe submissions is 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, September 20, 2010. For full contest description, entry form, and rules, visit www.charlestonmag.com/foodstar.
