If you’ve been too caught up with holiday decorating, the end of football season, or simply can’t get into the Christmas-shopping mode until the temperatures finally dip below 70, then never fear, this Friday, the King Street Shop Walk is the perfect place to jump start your Christmas shopping.

Over 35 retailers on historic King Street will participate, offering discounts, drinks, and appetizers to get you moving, and to spread some holiday cheer. Shoppers should visit www.kingstreetshopwalk.com to purchase a “Passport”, which will guarantee exclusives such as complimentary hair and makeup styling tips, discounts, and will act as a guide to all of the shopping and pampering up and down King Street. Other perks include:

- Complimentary wine/champagne/refreshments & appetizers throughout the stores
- Discounted shopping at participating retailers
- Gifts with purchase
- Automatic entry into door prize drawings
- Complimentary skincare/makeup/hair styling services throughout participating retailers
- Fun activities throughout the stores such as design your own undies, make a couture silk flower, warm up at the gourmet hot chocolate stand, and more!

Best of all, the passport sales benefit the Center for Women, the only comprehensive women’s development center in South Carolina, a non-profit whose mission is to make personal and professional success an everyday event for women in the Lowcountry. Passports are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Buy your passport here and pick it up to begin your evening at the Shops of Charleston Place, inside the Charleston Place Hotel. This is a perfect night of Christmas cheer for you and some girlfriends, or to convince your guy to tag along.  So come out, shop, appreciate historic King Street in all its Christmas beauty, and support a great local charity!

Taste of Charleston

Posted in Sales & Events with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 8, 2010 by Lowcountry Boil

The 30th annual Taste of Charleston runs October 8-10, 2010. The three-day celebration of Lowcountry cuisine is being hosted once again by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association and will feature some of Charleston’s finest, nationally-renowned chefs. For more than 20 years, this charity fund-raising event has been named one of the “Top 20 events in the Southeast” by Southeastern Tourism Society. More than 10,000 guests are expected and there will be something for people of all ages to enjoy. In addition to a few new surprises this year, there will be three events returning to the weekend, including:

Taste – Iron Chef Competition will be held Friday, October 8, at the Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus in downtown Charleston and will showcase some of the best local chefs in a heated head-to-head battle in the Institute’s state-of-the-art amphitheater kitchen.

Taste of the Arts on Gallery Row will be held Saturday evening, October 9, at various art galleries in downtown Charleston. The art walk combines Lowcountry art with the culinary arts and will showcase the talents of local artists while offering guests a sampling of appetizers from a variety of Charleston’s favorite restaurants.

Taste of Charleston (Main Event) will be held on Sunday, October 10, at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant. The event will showcase a sampling of culinary treats from more than 50 of Charleston’s finest restaurants. Additional highlights include the legendary Waiter’s Wine Race, food and wine pairings, a selection of specialty and imported beers, live bands on the main stage and a Kids Corner (complete with pony rides).

Tickets for all events may be purchased online beginning in July by clicking here. Tickets to the main event are $12 in advance and $15 at the gate.

The Greater Charleston Restaurant Association (GCRA) represents the largest private sector employer in the tri-county area. The association serves as the voice of the Charleston-area food service industry on government and public relations issues. Annual fund-raising events like Taste of Charleston and Lowcountry Oyster Festival, both sponsored by the Restaurant Association, enable them to give back to the community. To date, the association has donated more than $1 million to local charities including the Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center.
