Mac’n At The ‘Drome – A Concert Film Experience Benefiting Mac Leaphart

Posted in Sales & Events with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 13, 2012 by Lowcountry Boil

On January 28, both local and national musicians will be sitting in for beloved singer and songwriter, Mac Leaphart, and performing his songs at The Hippodrome. Benefiting a man who has successfully made a career out of connecting with people through his music, proceeds will go to Mac in his ongoing recovery from a serious car accident and recent surgery to remove a brain tumor. A unique experience of camaraderie and good will, performances of Mac’s music will be set against a visual narration on the theatre’s IMAX screen and give life to Mac’s story and his significant impact on those around him.

The concert features collaborative performances by Mark Bryan (Hootie and The Blowfish), Danielle Howle, Five Way Friday, John Wesley Satterfield, Joal Rush, Doug Jones (Craven Melon), Luke Cunningham, Greg Payne (The Piedmont Boys), Ryan Bonner, Jamie Resch with Shovels & Rope, Donnie Blackwell and more very special surprise guests. Reid Stone and Guilt Ridden Troubadour featuring members of Mac Leaphart’s current band, Mac Leaphart and My Ragged Company, will act as house band and musical conductors for the night’s celebration.

As doors open at 6:30 pm, acoustic music by Jim Marshall (Junkyard Angel) and a silent auction will start in the lobbies. Food concessions provided by Home Team BBQ and a full bar will run throughout the night. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the theatre and will last until 10 pm followed by more live music by Five Way Friday and John Totaro’s Classic Woodies until 12 a.m. or later. Garage parking is available as well as free parking in the open lot adjacent to the venue. Advance tickets are $17 and may be purchased online at  www.charlestonhippodrome.com. Day of show tickets are $20.

Mac Leaphart is a singer/songwriter who plays a blend of country, rhythm and blues. The Charleston City Paper describes Mac as “a rowdy set, which seems to meld Gram Parsons with the ‘Sticky Fingers’ era Rolling Stones”. Since his arrival in Charleston in 2007, Leaphart has been performing over 250 shows a year, solo and with his band, Mac Leaphart and My Ragged Company. Give Mac a listen and see why Skope Magazine says, “This guy may just single handedly save country music.”

Awendaw Green And Patriots Point Present Homegrown Music Showcase

Posted in Sales & Events with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 11, 2011 by Lowcountry Boil

Awendaw Green always puts on great Barn Jams, shows and festivals. The great thing about the upcoming Homegrown Music Showcase this Sunday is that you don’t have to drive far as it’s in Mount Pleasant at Patriot’s Point. Attendees will see a very diverse group of artists at a singer in the round set up where three artists rotate every 45 minutes from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Joining in the Patriots Point Veterans Day week celebration, this event is presented by Awendaw Green and Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum.

“This year we moved the annual Awendaw Green Music Fest to Patriots Point by invitation from Mac Burdett, the executive director of Patriots Point. After Mac volunteered at one of our early fests and liked the vibe, he wanted us to connect some of our good people to his great cause through music,” said festival organizer and Awendaw Green founder Eddie Green. “It will be friend raiser and a fundraiser for their Institute of History and Science and the brand new 501c-3 Awendaw Green Arts Institute.”

As there are 14 wooded acres at Patriots Point, the event will take place in a spot right next to the harbor by the U.S.S. Yorktown so it is similar to being in the woods in Awendaw. Green basically wanted to make the day like their Barn Jams where it is very connective, fun and good for all. In addition to the talented musicians, there will be food trucks, local arts and crafts and lots of other activities throughout the day. Green continues by saying, “We have much hope that this event will spread our music outreach to many new ears, showcase many well known and other deserving artists while helping Patriots Point.”

Suzy McGrane: Photo provided by SOS

Suzy McGrane was a local photographer who was diagnosed with breast cancer and ultimately lost her battle in her early twenties. What started as Save Our Suzy is now known as Share Our Suzy. The goal of SOS is to bridge the financial gap and allow breast cancer patients to focus solely on recovery and not the financial stress brought on during this very difficult battle. Funds raised cover the critical areas that insurance companies do not by providing assistance to those with every day needs such as wigs, prosthetics, childcare, gas cards, utility bill assistance, medication assistance and more. Share Our Suzy’s mission is to raise money and resources to assist and support breast cancer patients in South Carolina from diagnosis to remission.

One of the originators of the jam band movement, Indecision‘s innovative music is a unique blend of rock, jazz, blues and extended jams complete with rich and complex lyrics. Indecision has shared the stage with musicians such as Widespread Panic, Phish, Blues Traveler, Dave Matthews Band, Jorma Kaukonen, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Neville Brothers, The Connells, Jupiter Coyote and more.

Not all Southern rockers fit into an expected mold and that is exactly the case for the rhythm and blues five-piece, Gaslight Street. By incorporating Southern music traditions with their own life experiences, these long time friends have shown that Southern rock still has a place in the American music pantheon. Gaslight’s hard rock edge and fast guitar leads keep their loyal core of music loving fans thirsting for more.
